Race HQ: Burley Rugby Union Club, LS5 3NG
Facilities: Parking over the road near Abbey House Museum or in the streets behind the Vesper Gate Pub. Please car share if possible and park considerately for the locals if in the streets. Changing rooms, and toilet facilities in the race HQ. There is only one small shower block though. Sandwiches and cakes will be available after the race.
This course is about 6 miles and mainly grass, tarmac or dirt track. Given the time of year road shoes should be okay, but if conditions are very wet, trail shoes may be better.
This is the 2nd year we have had the use of this venue for YVAA GP’s and is well worth the trip to the east coast. The actual race takes place within the Mulgrave Castle Estate grounds and runners will be escorted down to the start on mass at 10.45am. This is a private estate so please do not make your own way to the start or try to recce the route before the race. The course is undulating and on firm woodland tracks. If water levels are low then a splash through a shallow ford will be included in the race. Trail or fell shoes will be needed in wet conditions but in dry conditions runners could use road shoes. The course is approximately 10K and in fact the Mulgrave Castle 10K will start on the same course about 10 minutes before the YVAA race, so make sure you start in the correct race! The course takes in the ruins of the original Mulgrave Castle. There will be separate finish funnels for the 10K and YVAA GP. Registration will start at approx. 9.30am and it will be the usual £5.00 entry on the day (£1.00 goes to host club). The 10K will have a separate registration area.
Facilities: Parking will be available at the sports pavilion and at overflow car parks nearby. Please follow directions of marshals. Coaches are welcome but it would be appreciated if you would let the organisers know if you are arriving by coach so that parking can be allocated (see details at bottom). Changing rooms, toilets and showers are available and refreshments will be available for a small charge after the race. In short this is a new venue in a delightful setting with excellent facilities and a very welcoming club so let’s try and get a really good turnout.
