7 Dec 2014 – WYXC Race 4 – Nunroyd Park
The final race of the West Yorkshire Cross Country League was held at Nunroyd Park, Leeds. Despite some great team performances at the previous races, we had a bit of a slim turnout for the final outing. Official excuses have not all yet been filed with the Secretary, but it was certainly a bitterly cold day so maybe that froze the enthusiasm of some folk!
That said, tepid team turnout should in no way lessen some great individual performances, most noteable of which was an outstanding run by Alex Bell for the ladies who crossed the line in 1st place after staying shoulder-to-shoulder with Holmfirth’s Katie Walshaw for the entire race. Rachel Pilling also had a good run, battling with the very muddy course to finish 29th.
For the men, Josh Norman lead the way, finishing in an impressive 6th place, with Andrew Smith not far behind in 22nd, and Steve Woods finishing in 116th.
In the Under 17s Men races, Josh Swatman is continuing to run strong, finishing in 19th place; and for the U17 Ladies Emma Boocock also had a good run finishing in 14th.
We also had a few of the Juniors out, which was good to see – Luke Storr 38th U11s boys; Natasha Robinson 58th U11 girls; Mitchell Boocock 37th U13 boys; and Erin Hinchliffe 67th U13 girls.
As this was the last race in the series, the results are also out for individual rankings based on best 3 race performances. Have a look at the site for full results but the one that really shouldn’t go unmentioned is 1st place Vet 50 to Jon Hollah.
Thanks to Stevie for the photographs.
