We are very much looking forward to welcoming Junior runners to the Duddon Valley where we will be offering challenging but fun routes for ea ch age group.

The Unde r 9/11 boys and girls will be exploring the area known as Dobby Shaw whils t the older age groups will venture a little further for each category wi th the Under 17 runners reaching Caw summit

The Under 19s will join the Seniors over the new Dud don Dash route that climbs up the Walna Scar Road to visit White Pike befo re finishing over Caw.

All routes will be fully flagged a nd lots of marshals will be on hand to offer encouragement and ensure the correct routes are followed for each race.

\nThe start and finish for all races is at SH728177 Eldo n Square in the middle of Dolgellau. It leaves by the steep metalled Cader road (bearing right at a junction) for c.2.5 km to Gellilwyd Fawr (SH7071 67\, map Check point ckpt 1/7)\, the first marshalled checkpoint. At this point the route follows public footpaths to the rear of the Gwernan lake r eaching the main Cader car park at Ty Nant (SH698153) in another 2km or so . Underfoot there good forest path gives way to boggy fields with tussocks and rocks. Ty Nant is a marshalled checkpoint (ckpt 2/6). Water is also a vailable here.
\n
The race then crosses the road and proceeds up the mountain on the “Pony Path” to Rhiw Gwredydd (SH691136) in another 1.5 km\ , just below the 2000ft point. Rhiw Gwredydd is a main race checkpoint (ck pt 3/5)\, all runners must pass the marshals here\, where numbers are reco rded.
\n
The route then follows the main footpath to the summit of Pe nygadair (SH711130) which is unmarked. The path from Ty Nant has open gras s\, scree and sections of laid block steps and bare rock. It is indistinct in places especially near the cwm edge at Cyfrwy. The final section runs close to the cliff edge and can be very windy. Marshals will be at the sum mit (ckpt 4)\, where once again race numbers will be noted.
\n
The re turn leg is a reversal of the ascent. All runners must pass the key marsha lled checkpoints on the descent back to town.

The ‘Hodgson Brothers Mountain R elay’ is a fell running relay race that started life as the ‘Ian Hodgson M ountain Relay’. It is set in the heart of the Lake District Fells and takes place every year in October. Following the succe ss of changing from a Sunday to a Saturday in 2024 for the first time in t he history of the race it will now continue to be on the first Sat urday in October. It is competed by around 70 teams from across t he country\, but mainly the North of England. It is the longest-running mo untain relay in the country.
\n
Th e race is a tough one\, with four legs each throwing up their separate cha llenges\, including hard climbs and steep descents on difficult terrain. T he route requires careful navigation especially in bad weather\, with no G PS allowed\, so it is imperative that clubs only enter if they are confide nt that all 8 runners have the ability & experience to cope with these con ditions…. it is not a race for novices wanting to enter their first fell r ace\, or for runners who cannot read a map. The race also represents one o f the highlights of the fell running calendar with keen racing across some magnificent mountain terrain\, and is always a great social day out endin g with many stories & shared experiences.

Each of the four legs is run in pairs (so 8 runners per team) and teams compete in Open\, Ladies\, Mixed or Vets categories.
\n
\n
Clubs enter via SiEntries on a pre-selection basis and will be notified shortly after the closing date of Sunday 10th August 2025 if they have been successful and how many tea ms they have been allocated. No money will be taken in advance but payment is required as soon as a place has been allocated to complete the entry. \n
\n
Entry is limited to 70 teams and we make no apology that there is a certain amount of vetting if we exceed this number (which has happened every year). Preference is given to Clubs that have historic ally supported the event but we do encourage\, and accept\, entries from o ther clubs. New Clubs should not enter more than one team as you will not be successful\, but we do try and take at least one or two new Clubs each year. Priority will be given to Clubs\, with proven fell experience\, who have previously been unsuccessful in trying to enter the race.
\n
Clu bs who ran last year will usually (but not always) be given the same numbe r of teams in the following years race. Do not enter addi tional teams as they will not be accepted and it just creates extra admin for the organisers. We hold a ‘Waiting List’ so you may be offered a place late in the day if you think you can still get a team ready to run.
\n
The Entry Fee is £130 per team which enables us to use SiEntries online entry and SPORTident result services and make donations to the local comm unity. We are very dependent on the support of the local community. Please see our Community page< /a> for more information on the local charities we support.

Please note that once your entry has been accepted and your Entr y Fee taken it is non refundable\, as always any surplus race funds will b e donated to the local Charities.

The following criteri a apply to each team category (please note that you canno t enter more than one team in any single category e.g. 2 x Open Teams):

Women’s Team – 8 ladies
\n
Mixed Team – 4 men and 4 ladies (can be split across the four legs in any way you want).
\n
Vets Team – 8 runners that must all be aged 40 or over on the day of the race (any mix of male or female)
\n
Open Team – anybody else!

There is a minimu m age limit of 18 yrs old apart from Leg 1 on which one 16 yr old may run\ , providing their partner is over 18 yrs old and that written consent is g iven by their parent or guardian. See the Event website for a full list of Race Rules

The 2025 UK Athletics Fell & Hill Re lays will be organised by Meirionnydd Running Club on Saturday 18th Octobe r 2025 at Dinas Mawddwy\, Powys. Entries will open on 1st July 2025.

The relays are held under UK Athletic (UKA) rules. Entries in the Champ ionship categories will only be accepted from clubs that are affiliated to UKA for fell running through their Home Country Athletics Federation (HCA F). If the entry limit is not reached\, the organising club may accept ent ries for the non-championship categories from clubs that are affiliated to HCAF\, but not for fell running.
\n
All runners must be registered w ith their Home Country Athletics Federation or be members of the FRA\, be first claim members of the club they represent and must wear a club vest. A registration number or FRA membership number for all team members will b e required on the team declaration form.
\n
The use of GPS for naviga tion purposes\, the use of running poles and the linking of runners by bun gee are not allowed.

UK Athletics medals will be awarded to member s of the first three teams in the following categories:
