Not the Stanbury Splash

18 January 2015 – Stanbury Splash (Changed to Stoop route due to ice) – 5 miles / 820 ft

The last of the woodentops winter series before handing over to the bunny runs in the spring. The previous day’s snow and ongoing cold temperatures meant the route was changed to that of the Stoop race.

The crisp clear day allowed the usual sprint out of the quarry followed by the dash up the track and then the stumble and stagger through the bogs and tussocks.

The terrain proved particularly challenging coming back down off the tops, the desire for speed being somewhat tempered by acrobatic falls.

that was so much fun, on the decent I was just laughing all the time, runners around me were going down like nine pins in to the snow, including myself.” – Graham Pearce

Plenty of maroon and gold to be seen in the seniors race and with Graham Pearce back in the fold and new re-recruit Neil Crampton in attendance, alongside Colin Walker, the men’s team prize was secured against a strong trio from Wharfedale.

For the ladies Rachel Pilling as newly crowned P&B female champ, continued her strong vein of form with a podium place in third.

We also had a few juniors out enjoying the snowy Quarry Runs: Luke Storr, Macsen Tiffany, and Douglas Tiffany. Good effort all!
